The Denver Broncos have reportedly executed a significant trade to bolster their offensive lineup, acquiring star wide receiver Jaylen Waddle from the Miami Dolphins. This move aims to enhance the Broncos' passing game after they narrowly missed the Super Bowl last season, falling just one win short in the AFC Championship game.
Trade Details and Draft Pick Exchange
According to ESPN reports, the Broncos will send a first-round pick, along with third- and fourth-round selections in this year's NFL draft, to the Dolphins in return for Waddle. As part of the agreement, Denver will also receive Miami's fourth-round pick, creating a complex exchange of assets that underscores the high value placed on the receiver.
Impact on Dolphins' Draft Strategy
If confirmed, this trade will leave the Dolphins with the 11th and 30th overall picks in the first round of the upcoming draft. Miami is expected to use these selections to build around newly acquired quarterback Malik Willis, following the release of Tua Tagovailoa earlier this month. The Dolphins had originally selected Waddle with the sixth overall pick in the 2021 draft, reuniting him with Tagovailoa, his former college teammate.
Jaylen Waddle's Career and Contract
Waddle, aged 27, is known for his exceptional speed and playmaking ability. He has achieved three consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons in his NFL career, including leading the league in average yards per catch in 2022. However, he has also faced challenges with injuries, which limited his production last season to 64 catches for 910 yards. Despite his consistent performance, Waddle has yet to earn Pro Bowl or All-Pro honors during his five seasons in the league.
Financially, Waddle is owed $68.6 million over the remaining three years of his contract, adding a substantial commitment for the Broncos. Denver, which finished 11th in passing offense in 2025, hopes that adding Waddle to their roster, combined with their elite defense, will propel them deeper into the playoffs this upcoming season.
Additional NFL Moves: Eagles Sign Hollywood Brown
In other NFL news, wide receiver Marquise "Hollywood" Brown has reportedly agreed to a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles. Brown, a first-round pick by Baltimore in 2019, recorded 49 catches for 587 yards and five touchdowns last season with the Chiefs. He joins a high-powered Eagles offense featuring quarterback Jalen Hurts, 2024 Associated Press NFL Offensive Player of the Year Saquon Barkley, and other stars like AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith. Brown's best season came in 2021 with the Ravens, where he had 91 receptions for 1,008 yards and six touchdowns.
This trade and signing highlight the ongoing strategic adjustments teams are making to strengthen their rosters ahead of the new NFL season, with a focus on offensive firepower and draft capital management.
