Tory MPs attack Greens over Zionism racism vote

Senior Conservative MPs have criticised the Green Party after its members voted to declare “Zionism is racism”. Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp was among those who branded the party “toxic to its core”.

Green leader barred from Israel

Green leader Zack Polanski has been barred from entering Israel after members voted on Sunday on the motion. Mr Polanski did not take part in the vote, having left the party conference after his speech on Friday to campaign in the Holborn and St Pancras by-election.

Israel accused the Green Party of legitimising “the destruction of the State of Israel” with a “clear antisemitic text”.

Green Party response

In a statement with Green MPs and his deputies, Mr Polanski said there is “no conflict between supporting the rights of Palestinians and the rights of Jewish people”.

There will be more reaction from the Conservatives on day two of its annual conference.
