Sombr Wins Three AMAs with Mom as Date at 2026 AMAs

Singer Sombr brought his supportive mother, Bennah Serfaty, as his date to the 52nd American Music Awards held on Monday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 54-year-old matriarch proved to be a good luck charm as her 20-year-old superstar son won three trophies: Breakthrough Rock/Alternative Artist, Best Rock/Alternative Song for "Back to Friends," and Best Rock/Alternative Album for "I Barely Know Her."

Mother-Son Duo Shine on Red Carpet

Serfaty wore a silver slip dress paired with matching heels, while Sombr, whose real name is Shane Michael Boose, donned a torso-flashing embellished blouse and black trousers selected by stylist Brandon Tan. Once inside the venue, the mother-son duo took their seats side by side.

Serfaty's Role at amfAR

Serfaty currently serves as the senior director of public relations for amfAR, the AIDS research organization founded in 1985 by Elizabeth Taylor and Mathilde Krim. The apple does not fall far from the tree; Sombr's father, Andy Boose, previously performed as rock 'n' roll cabaret performer René Risqué before founding AAB Productions. Serfaty and her husband of 22 years have a daughter, Amelie Boose.

Acceptance Speeches and Encouragement

In one of his acceptance speeches, Sombr said: "First of all, I want to thank you guys, the fans. You guys are the ones that got me this. Thank you for voting for me. I love you so, so, so much. I wouldn't be here without you. I love my fans." He also thanked his family. The native New Yorker encouraged fans to follow their dreams: "Two years ago, I was sitting in my living room watching this show wanting nothing more than to be on this stage and now I'm here. It felt impossible for me. So, you can do it. I love you." He added that he wrote his winning song at age 19 while depressed, producing it alone in his bedroom.

Wet Performance and Celebrity Encounters

Sombr performed his new single "Homewrecker," which peaked at number 19 on the Billboard Hot 100, under a rain machine onstage during the CBS/Paramount+ telecast. After the performance, the Grammy nominee took to TikTok to express embarrassment about being "completely drenched" on national television. The 6ft 5in singer also mingled with other stars, including lifetime achievement award winner Billy Idol, girl group Katseye, Hilary Duff, and rapper GloRilla.

Upcoming Tour and Background

Sombr is set to kick off his 37-date "You are the Reason Tour" on July 22 at the Pepsi Center WTC in Mexico City, Mexico, with opening acts such as Interpol and Dove Cameron. He began making music on GarageBand in elementary school and now boasts 57.5 million monthly listeners on Spotify.
