Sombr emerged as one of the biggest winners at the 2026 American Music Awards, taking home three trophies, including Best Rock/Alternative Song for “Back to Friends” and Best Rock/Alternative Album for “I Barely Know Her.” The singer also won Breakthrough Rock/Alternative Artist off-air. Notably, Sombr attended the ceremony with his mother as his date, making the evening a family affair.
Despite missing out on New Artist of the Year, which went to Katseye, Sombr’s performance on the show was followed by multiple trips to the podium. The fan-voted Artist of the Year award went to BTS, who won for the second time and first since their military service hiatus. BTS also tied with several artists for the most wins of the night, with three each.
Other major winners included Sabrina Carpenter, who took Album of the Year for “Man’s Best Friend,” and the soundtrack for “KPop Demon Hunters,” which won Best Soundtrack. Its lead single “Golden,” performed by EJAE, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami, won Song of the Year and Best Pop Song. Katseye claimed New Artist of the Year and Best Music Video for “Gnarly.”
Taylor Swift, who led with eight nominations, was shut out, as were Olivia Dean (seven nods) and Lady Gaga and Alex Warren (six each). The AMAs only awarded on-air trophies to winners present, with Album of the Year and other categories announced post-broadcast.
