Reform UK's Business Tsar Kevin Byrne Faces Conspiracy Theory Backlash
Reform's Business Tsar Accused of Spreading Conspiracies

Reform UK's newly appointed small business tsar is facing significant criticism after a series of controversial social media posts promoting conspiracy theories were uncovered.

Controversial Social Media History Exposed

Kevin Byrne, who recently appeared alongside Nigel Farage at a party event, has been accused of spreading what critics call 'dangerous conspiracies' across his social media platforms. The Checkatrade founder's online activity includes calling Covid vaccinations the 'crime of the century' in a Facebook post this summer.

In August, Mr Byrne shared a news article about an Australian doctor who lost his licence over Covid vaccine criticism, adding the caption: "Most fell for the crime of the century." His controversial views extended to vaccine passports in September 2021, when he declared: "Many like me have been telling people for 20 months this is not about your health. They only want to control you. Nazi Britain is here."

Wide Range of Controversial Statements

The businessman's contentious remarks weren't limited to pandemic-related matters. In a speech posted to YouTube a year ago, he made anti-Pride comments, stating: "I am just shocked at the Pride movement... You're associating your entire existence on your sexuality and that's how everybody has to see you and, if not, you're a bigot."

Other notable posts include:

  • Sharing content from US anti-abortion organisation Live Action in July 2023
  • Suggesting belief in chemtrails - the theory that aircraft vapour trails are harmful
  • Implying credibility in the Loch Ness Monster in September 2022
  • Admitting he ignored lockdown rules, saying he "never stayed at home"

Political Fallout and Reactions

The revelations come at a difficult time for Reform UK, following the recent jailing of their former leader in Wales, Nathan Gill, for accepting bribes from a Russian Putin ally. A Labour source commented: "Nigel Farage needs to take action on the dangerous conspiracies seeping out of his party. From anti-vax lunacy, to degrading a women's right to choose, Reform are insulting the public's intelligence."

Mr Farage had unveiled Mr Byrne as the party's small business representative just last month. Mr Byrne, who sold Checkatrade in 2017 and received an OBE in 2023, now faces mounting pressure over his publicly expressed views. Reform UK has been approached for comment regarding the situation.
