Marcus Rashford has been warned that his transfer options are narrowing unless he adjusts his financial demands. The Manchester United forward spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Barcelona, but a permanent move is now in doubt after the Catalan club signed Anthony Gordon for £69.3 million.
Nevin's Warning
Former Chelsea star Pat Nevin believes Rashford's high wages limit potential destinations. 'If I was advising Marcus Rashford, I'd tell him to stop being obsessed with money and cut a deal to stay at Manchester United,' Nevin told Grosvenor Casinos. He added that Barcelona may struggle to afford the £26 million option, while Real Madrid remains the only club capable of meeting his salary.
Limited Options
Nevin ruled out Chelsea, noting their focus on younger players. Aston Villa could be an option if Rashford lowers his expectations; he scored four goals and provided six assists in 17 games there during the 2024/25 campaign. However, Nevin stressed that Rashford should prioritize playing time over money.
Rashford's Future
The 28-year-old excelled at Barcelona, reaching double figures for goals and assists. Yet the club's pursuit of Julian Alvarez further complicates a permanent deal. Nevin urged Rashford to consider his legacy: 'Do I want to look back at that bank account with another zero, or do I want to make sure I enjoyed it?'
Despite being loaned out by two previous United managers, Nevin believes Rashford could revive his Old Trafford career, though he admitted it seems unlikely. 'The obvious team is actually Manchester United. And that's not going to happen,' he concluded.
