Green Party leader Zack Polanski has launched a scathing attack on Sir Keir Starmer over the King's upcoming visit to the United States, claiming he feels 'really sorry' for King Charles being 'paraded around' for the US President.
In a heated exchange, Polanski referenced a social media post by the US President suggesting an 'entire civilisation could be wiped out', arguing that the UK should be sanctioning and condemning him, not treating him as an ally. He stated: 'I feel really sorry for the King. He's being paraded around for someone who has said an entire civilisation could be wiped out.'
Security Concerns and Royal Visit
The comments come amid heightened security concerns following what the White House described as an attempted assassination of the US President. Despite this, Buckingham Palace confirmed that the King's visit to Washington will proceed largely as planned. This marks his first visit to the US as monarch, commemorating the 250th anniversary of American independence and the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.
Polanski's Republican Stance
Polanski also reiterated his personal opposition to the monarchy, arguing that it is not a suitable symbol for a country where many people are struggling while the wealthy become richer. He said: 'I'm a republican. I don't think the monarchy is a suitable symbol for a country where so many people are struggling while the rich get richer.'
The Green Party leader's remarks have reignited debate over the royal couple's travel to the US and the UK's relationship with the American President.
