Piers Morgan slams 'gutless' Polanski after BBC interview

Green Party leader Zack Polanski has been branded “gutless” by Piers Morgan after a car crash interview on BBC politics show Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg. The leader was skewered as he refused to answer a simple question four separate times on the programme, after his party voted to define Zionism as racism in a controversial bill.

Question repeated four times

Kuenssberg grilled him about the decision, asking: “Do you understand why how you are defining Zionism is deeply offensive to many Jews? Do you understand that?”, but Polanski would only say: “Everything you’ve just said is incredibly ahistorical. In 1917, the Balfour Declaration, there was a Jewish person in cabinet, Edward Montague, who said that pushing Jews to Israel was in itself antisemitic.”

Clearly irate, Kuenssberg pressed: “Zack Polanski, I’m asking if you understand why many people, looking what’s happened in the Green Party, including some of your own MPs, have worried about it. Many people have found it offensive. Do you understand that? I’m not asking do you agree with it, you obviously don’t agree with it! But do you understand why people have felt it’s deeply offensive?”

Polanski replied: “I understand people get offended about all sorts of things in politics-“ but was cut off as Kuenssberg repeated: “Do you understand why this is offensive to many people?”

Polanski's response

He rambled: “Well, I think because there’s so much misinformation about the state of Israel. I grew up in a Zionist household, and I grew up with the idea that being a Zionist was about a land for a people without a land. But then the question is, what happened to the people who were on that land? They were displaced, they were killed, they were ethnically cleansed. You asked about history, we could talk about what’s happening this weekend – Israeli terrorists destroying the lives of Palestinians. This is basic colonialism and racism, it’s happening every single day.”

Kuenssberg again repeated herself: “But I’m asking whether you understand that what has happened in your party in the last couple of weeks has significantly upset members of your own party, and it has significantly upset and worried many members of the Jewish community.”

Piers Morgan's reaction

The segment left Piers Morgan fuming as he took to X to tweet his own response. Piers said: “Zack Polanski has destroyed the Green Party as a serious political entity. He’s such a weird, deluded, nasty and gutless piece of work.”

Viewers were also baffled, with one writing: “Weird and weak. A puppet.” “It is now a radical/activist group, no longer a real political party,” someone else argued.
