Rangers are close to announcing the signing of centre-back Olwethu Makhanya, making him the eighth new arrival of the summer under Derek McInnes. McInnes confirmed he hoped to have the South Africa international at the club by Friday's league opener against Dundee United.
Priority areas identified
Speaking to the Fan Advisory Board on July 21, the club named central defence, midfield, and wide areas as priority recruitment positions, though this was subject to opportunities and player movement. Since then, Partizan Belgrade captain Vanja Dragojevic has joined to bolster midfield, and Makhanya is set to add competition at centre-back.
Wide areas now remain the focus, with winger Oliver Antman reportedly heading for the exit as he nears a move to Anderlecht, which could bring in funds.
Winger targets under consideration
Rangers are tracking Brighton's Amario Cozier-Duberry, who has 12 months left on his contract. Brighton are keen to extend his deal before sending him on loan, having rejected a £5m bid from Anderlecht. A move for the 21-year-old won't be rushed due to competition.
Vaclav Cerny is another option, with Rangers exploring a deal with Besiktas for the 28-year-old, who has dropped in the pecking order. However, a deal for Mo Salah has stalled, and reports in Turkey via A Spor suggest Cerny is not inclined to leave Istanbul, despite interest from the Saudi Pro League and Trabzonspor.
On the left flank, Coventry City are reportedly willing to let Jahnoah Markelo leave on loan. Rangers showed interest last year before his €5m move to Coventry in January, but he could depart following their Premier League return. According to Coventry Live, Frank Lampard is unlikely to give him minutes in the top flight after an underwhelming Championship campaign, facilitating a temporary exit.
Rangers also considered re-signing Mikey Moore at the end of last season, but Tottenham are in no rush to decide his future. Football London states the 18-year-old's status for the coming season remains up in the air, with no European football for Tottenham and a lack of minutes. Moore has said he is ready to fight for a spot at Spurs, amid links to Millwall.
