Liverpool have reportedly contacted RB Leipzig to discuss a summer move for Yan Diomande, the 19-year-old Ivory Coast international seen as a potential replacement for departed star Mohamed Salah. The Reds face stiff competition from Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City for the Bundesliga Young Player of the Season.
Diomande joined Leipzig from Leganes for £17m in July 2025 and has a contract until 2030. After an outstanding debut campaign with 13 goals and 10 assists in 36 games, Leipzig have placed a €130m (£112m) price tag on the winger. Despite reports that Diomande has agreed personal terms with PSG, Liverpool remain in contention and are understood to be in the strongest position to secure his signature.
However, major obstacles remain. Leipzig are reluctant to sell this summer, and Liverpool are hesitant to meet the £112m fee after spending over £450m last summer on players including Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak. Diomande has no release clause, meaning a transfer is not guaranteed.
Liverpool's urgency is driven by the gap left by Salah's departure, with no direct replacement yet signed. The club is set to appoint Andoni Iraola as manager, replacing Arne Slot, and the new boss will need reinforcements after a fifth-place Premier League finish. Diomande fits the club's recruitment strategy of signing young talent, and Iraola's track record of developing players at Bournemouth is seen as a plus.
Diomande has previously stated his commitment to Leipzig, saying: 'My contract here is until 2030, so I have four more years. What's going to happen afterwards? I don't know. I am a Leipzig player.' He added that the club helped him and his family off the pitch, and he aims to repay them with his performances.
