Former Manchester United star Jesse Lingard has backed his ex-teammate Michael Carrick to remain in the Old Trafford dugout beyond the current season.
Carrick's impact at Manchester United
Carrick was appointed in January to replace Ruben Amorim and has since guided United to third place in the Premier League table, putting the Red Devils in a strong position to secure Champions League qualification for next season.
Lingard, who now plays for Corinthians in Brazil, told BBC Sport that United have improved "leaps and bounds" since Carrick returned to the club at the start of the year.
Lingard's call for a new contract
The former England international has called on United's hierarchy to support Carrick by offering him a new contract, stating that the club is "really on the right track with Michael."
Lingard emphasised that Carrick possesses "that Manchester United DNA inside of him" and "knows the ins and outs of the club," which he believes will serve him well if he is appointed as the club's next long-term manager.
