Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has revealed that his party is in discussions with several former Labour MPs and even a couple of sitting MPs in the House of Commons, hinting at potential defections. Speaking after a strong performance in local elections, Farage predicted that Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer may not remain in his position by mid-summer.
Farage’s Verdict on Labour Defections
In an interview, Farage stated: “I think all sorts of things could happen over the course of the next few months. But we have been in talks with several former Labour MPs, and a couple who are sitting in the House of Commons right now.” He suggested a possible ‘Red Wall’ rebellion against Starmer’s leadership, noting that Reform UK’s campaign slogan, “Vote Reform, Get Starmer out,” has been highly effective.
Local Election Surge
The comments come as Reform UK made significant gains in the local elections, with Farage hailing it as a “historic” night. Meanwhile, Labour suffered a major blow, with the First Minister of Wales losing his seat. Farage believes Starmer’s position is increasingly precarious, stating: “He won’t be there by mid-summer.”
Farage’s remarks underscore the growing challenge Reform UK poses to the main political parties, particularly in traditional Labour strongholds. The party’s strategy appears to focus on capitalizing on discontent with Starmer’s premiership and attracting disillusioned Labour voters and MPs.
