Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has declared his largest single payment yet for work outside his role as an MP, earning £270,000 for promoting gold bullion. The payment from Direct Bullion, disclosed in his latest register of financial interests, covers an estimated four hours of work over three months.
Farage's brand ambassador role
Mr Farage works as a brand ambassador for Direct Bullion and has registered several other payments from the company in the past. According to the register entry, he also earned £18,402 for an estimated six hours of presenting on GB News.
Questions over £5 million gift
Mr Farage continues to face questions about a £5 million gift he received from Thai-based billionaire Christopher Harborne. The Reform leader has argued that he did not need to declare the gift, given before he announced his candidacy for Parliament in 2024, because it was not related to politics.
The Clacton MP has provided various explanations for the gift, including that it was for personal security and a “reward” for his Brexit campaigning. In recent interviews, he insisted the gift was a “wholly private matter” and refused to confirm whether any of it was spent on security or other purposes.
Investigation by standards commissioner
Parliament’s standards commissioner is investigating whether Mr Farage should have registered the gift. Reform UK was contacted for comment.
