Jimmy Fallon welcomed Fox News host Greg Gutfeld to The Tonight Show on Thursday, steering clear of politics in a friendly exchange that contrasted with President Donald Trump’s recent criticisms of late-night comics.
The pair reminisced about a drunken wrestling match they had in a Hell’s Kitchen bar years ago. Gutfeld, a favourite of Trump, described the encounter in detail, joking that Fallon tackled him “like a giant golden retriever.”
Fallon, who faced backlash for a 2016 interview with Trump where he ruffled the then-candidate’s hair, has previously said political comedy is “not what I do.” He expressed regret over the incident but defended his approach.
During his monologue, Fallon quipped about Trump’s tariffs, saying the president had not applied them “to North Korea and Epstein Island.” Trump had earlier attacked Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, and Stephen Colbert as having “no talent,” claiming their shows would be next to be cancelled.
