Elon Musk criticised for blaming trans daughter for his political shift

Elon Musk has faced backlash after endorsing a post that suggested his transgender daughter, Vivian Jenna Wilson, was responsible for his turn to right-wing politics. The billionaire responded “true” to an X post claiming that without Wilson, Musk would not have become politically active, bought Twitter, or helped prevent Kamala Harris from becoming US president.

Musk, 54, has previously blamed the “woke mind virus” for Wilson’s transition and his own political shift, which made him a major donor to Donald Trump and briefly head of the Department of Government Efficiency. However, Wilson, 20, has denied any connection, stating in a 2025 Teen Vogue interview: “It’s such a convenient narrative, that the reason he turned right is because I’m a f****** t*****, and that’s just not the case.”

Wilson, Musk’s eldest child from his first marriage, has been estranged from him since coming out as transgender in 2020. She legally changed her name in 2022, saying she did not wish to be related to her biological father. After Musk misgendered her in a 2024 interview, she publicly challenged him, saying she would not let his lies go unchallenged.

Social media users criticised Musk for again using his daughter as a scapegoat. One user wrote: “Elon is a narcissist. very common for narcissists to humiliate and embarrass their child.” Another added: “Wow nice, way to blame the victim again.” A third commented: “He couldn’t control his child so he decided to try and control the whole country.”
