Australian comedian Dave Hughes, 55, has shared the simple secret to keeping the spark alive in his two-decade marriage to wife Holly Ife. Speaking to Daily Mail, Hughes emphasised the importance of being present and having gratitude, saying, 'If you live in the present, then every day is like your first day... you are not bored that you have been together for 23 years! You are just happy that you are together today.'
Hughes also highlighted the value of not holding grudges, whether with a mortal enemy or his wife. 'It's about not holding grudges, not having a scorecard of resentment that you hold onto,' he explained. He added that he is thrilled his wife accepts him as he is, including his distinctive smile, which he is hesitant to fix with veneers, noting that the jury is still out on whether he should.
Elsewhere in the interview, Hughes delivered a blunt verdict on ARN's $200million deal with axed radio stars Kyle Sandilands and Jackie 'O' Henderson, calling the executives behind it 'insane'. He said the deal was unsustainable given the changing media landscape, pointing to his own show being axed in 2024. 'Whoever signed off on it is insane, basically,' he said. 'They did not read the tea leaves about what is going on in the industry, or the world.'
Hughes acknowledged the duo's popularity but questioned whether any talent could justify such a salary. 'You don't want a contract which means other people can't work,' he added. The comedian is currently performing his new show 'Cooked' at the Melbourne and Sydney Comedy Festivals.
