Enzo Fernandez, Marc Cucurella and Joao Pedro of Chelsea were seen in conversation with Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham at the Madrid Open tennis tournament on Tuesday, fuelling speculation about potential moves to the Spanish giants. The quartet were photographed courtside during the last-16 match between Vit Kopriva and Rafael Jodar, with Jude Bellingham's brother Jobe also present.
Courtside encounter
The three Chelsea players, who were given time off by the club, sat in front of the Bellingham brothers. Sky Sports cameras captured handshakes and Fernandez deep in conversation with the Real Madrid midfielder. This interaction may raise eyebrows among Chelsea supporters, especially after Fernandez's comments during the March international break hinted at a possible switch to Los Blancos, leading to an internal suspension.
Fernandez's recent form
Fernandez was reintegrated into the squad earlier this month and appeared to reaffirm his commitment by gesturing to the Chelsea badge after scoring in the FA Cup semi-final against Leeds United. However, doubts persist over his long-term future at Stamford Bridge. Caretaker boss Calum McFarlane praised the Argentine after the match, calling him a winner with immense talent and fight.
Cucurella also faced disciplinary action for criticising the Chelsea project and the sacking of Enzo Maresca. With no permanent head coach, players speaking out, and Champions League qualification uncertain, Chelsea appear to be in turmoil. Yet, an FA Cup final against Manchester City offers a glimmer of hope.
McFarlane's praise
McFarlane highlighted Fernandez's ability to score from the back post, saying: "It's one of his biggest attributes... He's a winner, he's got so much talent, he's got so much fight." He added that Fernandez's versatility and threat in the box make him a key player, especially when played higher up the pitch.
The Chelsea trio's presence at the Madrid Open has intensified speculation, but for now, Fernandez remains focused on the upcoming final.
