Kemi Badenoch has launched her pitch to be the next PM – and she certainly isn’t mincing her words. The Tory leader vowed to emulate Margaret Thatcher as she kicked off her party conference.
Common sense and basic principles
Kemi says the key to turning Britain round is restoring “common sense” and basic principles. She unveiled her mission statement by hinting at plans to slash inheritance tax and make changes to child care payments. There will no doubt be more eye-catching announcements this week.
Battle to prove Tory credibility
She says Andy Burnham doesn’t have a plan. Her biggest battle, of course, is to prove the Tories really are a serious prospect for Government. Only time will tell but Kemi has cast herself as the “no-nonsense mum” to Burnham’s “cheesy uncle”. I suppose that makes the rest of us their fed-up children. What a thought!
Face the future at UK airports
WE’VE all endured nightmare queues trying to get through airports. It’s the last thing you need when you are tired and desperately trying to get home. So anything designed to speed up the process is certainly welcome.
Within weeks, you will be able to use your face rather than scan your passport at the e-gates of UK airports. We’re definitely on board – as there could be security benefits as well. This could potentially free up Border Control staff currently tied to their desk carrying out routine checks.
Sounds great – as long as it works. Because far too often, these things don’t. And if your face isn’t recognised, you will be back in that dreaded queue.
