BTS took home the Artist of the Year award at the American Music Awards on Monday night, marking the second time the K-pop group has won the fan-voted prize and the first since they began their military service hiatus. They previously won in 2021.
Katseye won New Artist of the Year, beating fierce competition from Sombr, Olivia Dean, Ella Langley, Leon Thomas and Alex Warren. Sombr did not leave empty-handed, winning Best Rock/Alternative Song for 'Back to Friends' and Best Rock/Alternative Album for 'I Barely Know Her', plus Breakthrough Rock/Alternative Artist off-air.
The soundtrack for 'KPop Demon Hunters' and its lead single 'Golden' performed by EJAE, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami won Song of the Year. The AMAs only awarded on-air prizes to winners present, so Album of the Year went to Sabrina Carpenter for 'Man’s Best Friend' off-air, one of three awards she won.
Several artists tied for the most wins with three each: BTS, Katseye, Sombr, Carpenter, Cardi B, Bruno Mars and the singing voices of Huntr/X. Winners of two included Bad Bunny, Ella Langley, Shakira, Tyla and Zara Larsson. Taylor Swift, who led with eight nominations, was shut out, as were Olivia Dean (seven nods), Lady Gaga and Alex Warren (six each).
