A shooting at the White House Correspondents' Dinner at the Washington Hilton has left one law enforcement officer injured and led to the evacuation of President Donald Trump and other officials. The suspect, 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen from California, was apprehended after firing a shotgun at a Secret Service agent. Authorities found him armed with multiple weapons.
Suspect's Manifesto and Motive
Prior to the attack, Allen sent an anti-Trump manifesto to his family, referring to himself as the 'Friendly Federal Assassin' and outlining his intent to target administration officials. President Trump reacted strongly, branding CBS as 'horrible people' in a 60 Minutes interview for quoting from the manifesto. He also claimed that 'hate speech' from the Democrats is driving violence in America.
Legal Proceedings
Allen is set to be arraigned on Monday, facing federal charges including assault of a federal officer and attempting to kill a federal officer. The incident has reignited debates about political rhetoric and violence in the United States.
