A prominent OnlyFans creator has launched a scathing rebuttal against a Republican candidate for Florida Governor who has proposed a special 'sin tax' targeting performers on the adult content platform.
The Proposed Tax and the Political Backlash
Sophie Rain, a 21-year-old who claims to have earned a staggering $83 million from her OnlyFans account, is now embroiled in a heated online dispute with James Fishback. Fishback is a candidate in Florida's 2026 GOP primary race, who has vowed to prevent the 'exploitation' of young women on the site if elected.
Fishback's policy would impose a 50 percent tax on revenue generated by Florida-based OnlyFans creators. He has branded this a 'sin tax', stating its economic purpose is to 'disincentivize and deter a behaviour' he considers immoral. He pledged that all revenue raised would be used to increase public school teacher pay and improve school lunches, estimating it could generate up to $200 million.
'I don't want young women who could otherwise be mothers raising families... to be selling their bodies to sick men online,' Fishback told NXR Studios. He further expressed concern about 'young, impressionable men' being drawn into lust.
Sophie Rain's Fierce Rebuttal
Rain's response was swift and unequivocal. She told PEOPLE the proposal was 'the dumbest thing I've ever heard of'. Identifying as a Christian, she argued she 'hasn't sinned' and therefore should not be subject to a sin tax.
'No one ever forced me to start an OnlyFans, it was MY decision, so I don't need a 31-year-old man telling me I can't sell my body online,' Rain stated. 'I am a Christian, God knows what I am doing, and I know he is happy with me.'
In a pointed social media retort, she quipped that Fishback's comments 'sound like you subscribed and got buyers remorse after dropping your annual salary on an OF girl'. She also accused him of focusing on her to gain viral attention for his campaign, which is reportedly trailing behind Florida Representative Byron Donalds.
Broader Questions of Taxation and Fairness
Rain raised a wider issue of tax fairness in a separate video. She indicated she might consider the payment if Florida's politicians made similar efforts to tax multibillion-dollar corporations that currently pay little or no tax.
'Targeting a group of individuals using their job to survive when there are multibillion dollar corrupt business that don't pay any taxes is the insane,' she captioned the video.
Rain has previously clarified her content, telling the Daily Mail she posts 'some explicit stuff' but is 'not as explicit as people may think', describing herself as a virgin and 'the girl next door'. Her substantial earnings have reportedly allowed her to buy a farm, a $450,000 Porsche, and support her family.
The controversy unfolds against a complex backdrop for Fishback. Last month, NBC News reported a Florida school district severed ties with him following allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a minor student in 2022, when he was 27 and she was 17. Fishback has denied the allegations, stating he was 'fully exonerated' by court hearings and never charged.
