Fresh video evidence has emerged that directly contradicts the official White House narrative surrounding the fatal shooting of Renee Good, a mother-of-three, by a masked Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent in Minnesota.
Video reveals crucial steering manoeuvre
The footage, captured from the perspective of the officer who fired the shots, has been analysed by the Mirror and shows the exact moment claims made by former President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance unravel. The White House had asserted that the 37-year-old was attempting to run over the officer, justifying the use of lethal force in self-defence.
However, the new evidence reveals a different story. The video clearly shows Ms Good turning her steering wheel to the right, manoeuvring her Honda Pilot away from the officer who was standing to the front-left of her vehicle. This pivotal action indicates she was trying to drive around him, not towards him.
The final confrontation
The incident occurred on Wednesday, January 7th, 2026, just hours after Renee had dropped her son at school. She encountered a swarm of law enforcement officials conducting an immigration raid and had partially blocked the road with her car.
The footage shows the ICE agent exiting his vehicle, walking around Renee's Honda Pilot, and recording her registration and face. Renee rolled down her window and was heard saying, "That's fine, dude. I'm not mad at you." She identified herself as a US citizen and a former Navy veteran.
At one point, she reversed to let other cars pass. The situation escalated when more officers approached, demanding she exit the vehicle. As she began to turn the wheel to navigate away, the officer's camera pointed away, and he can be heard saying "whoa".
Critical analysis shows the officer switched the phone he was using to film to his left hand, freeing his right hand to draw his weapon ten seconds later. Three shots were fired. Renee's car accelerated towards nearby parked cars, and the officer was heard uttering a slur. Renee Good died at the scene.
A life remembered and a narrative challenged
In the wake of her death, Renee has been described by her loved ones as a kind and compassionate Christian. Her partner, Becca Good, said in a tribute that "kindness radiated out" of her. Her ex-husband insisted she was not an activist and had never been known to participate in protests, describing her instead as a devoted mother who had worked as a dental assistant and at a credit union.
Renee was a creative writing graduate from Old Dominion University in Virginia, having won a prize for her work in 2020. She leaves behind three children: a 15-year-old daughter, a 12-year-old son, and a 6-year-old son.
Despite the video evidence and public uproar, the Trump administration continues to defend the shooting, claiming it was an act of self-defence against a driver "weaponising" their vehicle. The administration has deployed over 2,000 federal officers to Minnesota as part of an expanded enforcement drive, with some reassigned from a separate operation in Louisiana.
The release of the video has intensified protests across US cities and towns, challenging the official account and raising serious questions about the use of force during immigration operations.
