Mike, a self-described Conservative voter and Brexit supporter, said: 'This country will remain almost ungovernable until we have mass deportations. The politicians just turn round and throw it back in our faces with record levels of immigration.' He argued there is a massive disconnect between the political class and the public, who never consented to such immigration levels.
Iain Dale's Response
Dale responded by saying you cannot deport people who are here legally, calling it outrageous. He questioned the caller's stance on ending indefinite leave to remain for those already granted it, arguing from a basic humanity and fairness perspective, you cannot change the rules retroactively. The caller calmly replied that you can, and when Dale asked if that's the kind of country he wants to live in, Mike simply answered 'Yes'.
The exchange was highlighted on social media, with one user noting the gap between Westminster and the rest of the country. The video garnered over 8,000 likes, with commenters expressing frustration at being ignored and citing personal experiences of rule changes in other countries.
