YouTuber Under Investigation for Trespassing After Posting Dezi Freeman Hideout Footage
Police in Victoria are investigating a YouTuber for potential trespass offences after footage of the property where fugitive Dezi Freeman was shot dead last month was posted online. The videos, shared on The Chaos Chronicles channel, show the YouTuber, known as Biff, exploring the Thologolong property in north-east Victoria, including inside the shipping container where Freeman was living before his death.
Footage Details and Police Response
The footage, taken on private property, includes scenes of the YouTuber being filmed by another man as they walk through the site. It shows them pointing out bullet holes in an upturned boat, examining a rudimentary camp kitchen outside the shipping container, and venturing inside the container itself. Inside, items such as shirts on hangers, a hiking bag, a sleeping bag, a table, and a couch are visible among other detritus. Additional videos include drone footage of the area.
In a statement, Victoria police confirmed: "Police are investigating a report of a trespass at a property on Murray River Road in Thologolong on 16 April. Investigators are aware of a video posted online in relation to the trespass and are investigating the circumstances. The investigation remains ongoing." The YouTuber has been contacted for comment, and the property owner, who has not responded to requests, has reportedly been cleared of any wrongdoing by police.
Background on Dezi Freeman Case
Dezi Freeman's death on 30 March came after he killed two police officers and wounded a third in Porepunkah in August, leading to a seven-month manhunt. The property in Thologolong, where he was found, had been vacant aside from Freeman at the time. Police are continuing to retrace his steps from Thologolong back to Porepunkah, about 100km south-west.
The videos, posted in the past week, include one titled "I WENT TO DEZI FREEMANS LAST STAND HIDEOUT...THEY LIED TO US ALL !!" with a caption claiming to reveal unseen footage. This 29-minute video has been viewed almost 70,000 times, highlighting public interest in the case.
