Penelope Jackson, 66, has told a jury she stabbed her husband David Jackson, 78, after he became verbally aggressive over a misunderstanding about a VAR decision during a football match. The incident occurred in the kitchen of their bungalow in Berrow, Somerset, in February.
In footage released at Bristol Crown Court, Jackson is seen telling police: 'I admit it all. He was ranting about VAR, and I just snapped. I didn't mean to kill him, just to shut him up.' She added: 'With any luck you'll be too late.' The jury heard that Jackson had suffered years of domestic abuse, including being head-butted, strangled, and having a knife held to her throat.
Jackson has admitted manslaughter but denies murder. In a 999 call played to the jury, her husband can be heard screaming as a knife is allegedly driven into him. Jackson told the call handler: 'I might go and stab him again. He's an aggressive bully and nasty, and I've had enough.'
During the defence case, Clare Wade QC said: 'This case is about domestic abuse, control and ultimately entrapment. She lost control and stabbed her husband. She did not intend to kill him or cause serious harm.' The trial continues.
