Trump Blames Democrats After Second Charlotte Light Rail Stabbing by Migrant
Trump blames Democrats for Charlotte stabbing by migrant

Former US President Donald Trump has launched a fierce attack on Democratic politicians, accusing them of ruining the city of Charlotte, North Carolina. His outburst follows a second violent stabbing incident on the city's light rail system, allegedly carried out by an unauthorised migrant who had been deported before.

Trump's Social Media Fury Over Charlotte Crime

On Saturday 6 December 2025, Donald Trump used his Truth Social platform to express his anger. "Another stabbing by an Illegal Migrant in Charlotte, North Carolina," he wrote. "What's going on in Charlotte? Democrats are destroying it, like everything else, piece by piece!!!"

This comment was a direct response to a violent altercation that occurred the previous night. Authorities allege that Oscar Solarzano, 33, a Honduran national, was intoxicated when he challenged a fellow passenger to a fight before stabbing him with a knife.

Details of the Attack and the Alleged Perpetrator

The victim, identified in court documents as Kenyon Kareem-Shemar Dobie, was taken to hospital and was reported to be in stable condition by the Mecklenburg EMS Agency. Solarzano now faces serious charges including attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, and is being held in Mecklenburg County jail.

Court papers describe Solarzano as an "illegal" who has been "deported previously." The magistrate noted the suspect was "unintelligible and slurred words" before attacking with a "large fixed blade knife." According to the Department of Homeland Security, Solarzano has illegally entered the United States three times. He was expelled in 2018, apprehended again in 2021, and his most recent entry date is unknown.

"ICE lodged a detainer to ensure this criminal illegal is not released back into North Carolina neighborhoods," stated DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. She expressed concern that local authorities might not cooperate, saying, "Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee the county will honor the detainer since they have a history of not cooperating with ICE."

Political Fallout and Echoes of a Previous Tragedy

Republican figures were quick to link this attack to local Democratic leadership, mirroring criticism from a fatal stabbing on the same light rail system in August. That earlier incident claimed the life of Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska and sparked national debate about crime policies.

"Oscar Solarzano was previously deported and then illegally entered our country AGAIN," wrote North Carolina Representative Mark Harris on X. "These are the folks NC's pro-crime Democrats want to keep on the streets."

This latest stabbing comes just a month after the Trump administration surged federal immigration agents into Charlotte, as part of a wider operation in Democrat-run cities. While framed as a crackdown on violent criminals, internal data reported by CBS News indicated that fewer than a third of those arrested had prior criminal charges or convictions.

Despite these high-profile incidents, Charlotte officials reported in October that crime has been declining substantially throughout the year. Third-quarter statistics showed homicides down by 24 percent and aggravated assaults down by 19 percent. Following the Zarutska stabbing, city leaders had already increased law enforcement patrols on the light rail network.

Oscar Solarzano is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
