South Yorkshire Police have confirmed that a body has been recovered following a search for a teenage boy who went missing in water at Rother Valley Country Park. Emergency services were called to the park near Sheffield at approximately 6:50pm on Monday evening after reports that the boy had entered the water but failed to resurface.
A specialist search operation involving South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service and Yorkshire Ambulance Service was launched. Residents reported seeing multiple emergency vehicles and a helicopter circling the area during the search.
In the early hours of Tuesday morning, a body was recovered from the water. While formal identification is yet to take place, the boy's family has been informed and is being supported by specially trained officers.
A police spokesperson said: "We were called to Rother Valley Country Park at 6.50pm yesterday following reports that a teenage boy had entered the water but had not been seen getting out. Sadly, in the early hours of this morning, a body was recovered from the water."
The incident comes as police had issued warnings about the dangers of swimming in open water ahead of the bank holiday weekend. No further details have been released at this time.
