Piers Morgan has launched a blistering attack on Manchester United part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, branding him a 'stinking race-baiting hypocrite' after the billionaire claimed the UK has been 'colonised by immigrants'. The controversial broadcaster took to X, formerly Twitter, to criticise Ratcliffe's remarks, pointing out that Ratcliffe himself is an immigrant tax exile living in Monaco.
Morgan wrote: 'Aside from his blatant lies/ignorance about UK population numbers, Ratcliffe is an immigrant tax exile in Monaco, and most of his Manchester United team are immigrants to UK. So he's a stinking race-baiting hypocrite.' The post has been viewed over 1.2 million times and liked 20,000 times, sparking a lively debate.
Sir Jim, 73, made the comments during a Sky News interview, where he said the UK had been 'colonised by immigrants' and described Nigel Farage as an 'intelligent man' with 'good intentions'. He also inaccurately claimed the UK population had risen from 58 million in 2020 to 70 million, when official figures show it was 67 million in mid-2020 and 70 million in mid-2024.
The Manchester United Muslim Supporters Club expressed 'deep concern' over the remarks, while Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer called them 'offensive and wrong' and demanded an apology. Labour MP Alex Sobel also condemned the comments as 'outrageous and inflammatory', highlighting the contributions of immigrants to the UK.
