The National Basketball Association has postponed a game between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Golden State Warriors following a fatal shooting by federal agents in Minneapolis on Saturday.
In a statement on the Timberwolves' Instagram page, the league said the decision was made 'to prioritise the safety and security of the Minneapolis community.' The match, originally scheduled for broadcast on ABC, has been rescheduled to Sunday at 4.30 p.m. CT and will air on NBA TV.
The postponement comes amid days of protests in Minnesota against the presence of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in the state. A nationwide immigration crackdown has been a key priority of Donald Trump's second term.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz condemned the incident, telling the New York Times: 'They killed a man, created chaos, pushed down protesters, threw gas indiscriminately and then we're left to clean up.'
President Trump responded on Truth Social, accusing Governor Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Fey of 'inciting insurrection' to divert attention from a social service fraud investigation. He wrote: 'LET OUR ICE PATRIOTS DO THEIR JOB!'
