Residents in the quiet Lancashire town of Lytham have been left alarmed after a naked man wearing only a gimp mask and trainers was captured on Ring doorbell footage prowling the streets in the early hours of July 18.
The eerie clip, which circulated on Facebook, shows the man creeping along Westby Street, Cleveland Road and Bannister Street shortly after midnight. Witnesses reported the sighting to Lancashire Police, who have launched an investigation.
A force spokesman said: 'We are aware of a concerning video circulating on social media of a naked male wearing a face covering walking around Lytham in the early hours of the morning. This incident occurred on 18 July 2025 at approximately 00.50am. It was not initially reported to police and has only been brought to our attention after being viewed on Facebook.'
The Fylde Rural Task Force is now conducting CCTV and house-to-house enquiries. Officers have appealed for anyone with relevant footage to come forward, reassuring the public that the matter is being taken seriously.
This incident echoes a similar case in Somerset in 2022, where a man in a latex gimp suit terrorised villages near Bristol and Weston-super-Mare. On that occasion, a teenager was approached by the individual, prompting locals to form search teams. Despite two arrests, the culprit was never identified.
