The mother of a nine-year-old girl who was fatally stabbed while playing outside has described the moment she found her daughter bleeding to death in the street. Lina Savicke, 35, was working nearby in Boston, Lincolnshire, when she heard her child scream for her.
She rushed outside to find her daughter, Lilia Valutyte, with a stab wound, while her five-year-old sister stood beside her. “I heard someone calling me, ‘mom!’ I go out and see how my little girl, who was standing a metre away from her big sister, just bled to death,” she told the Sunday Mirror.
Deividas Skebas, a 22-year-old Lithuanian fruit picker, has been charged with Lilia’s murder and remanded in custody. A plea hearing is set for 19 September. The suspect’s mother reportedly called Ms Savicke to offer support.
Ms Savicke told Delfi Plus: “His mother called yesterday. I heard that he comes from a very good family. She promised to take care of everything that she is able to.” Ms Savicke said she informed the suspect’s mother about plans to raise funds for a sculpture of an angel in Lilia’s memory.
An inquest heard Lilia died from a single stab wound and was identified by her stepfather, Aurelijus Savickas. CCTV footage showed the nine-year-old playing with a hula hoop with her sister moments before the attack at about 6.15pm on 28 July.
