Man Admits Racially Assaulting Orthodox Jew in Slough

A man has admitted to a racially motivated assault on an Orthodox Jewish man in Slough, Berkshire, after accusing him of 'killing babies in Palestine'. Shafiq Rahman, 48, pleaded guilty to racially aggravated assault, fear or provocation of violence by words, and criminal damage at Reading Magistrates' Court on Friday.

Details of the Attack

The incident occurred on 20 April in Slough, where Rahman, while riding a bicycle, shouted antisemitic slurs at the victim. He called the victim a 'dirty Jew' and accused him of 'killing babies in Palestine'. A video presented in court showed Rahman also threatening to 'break his jaw' during the unprovoked attack.

Court Proceedings

District Judge Devinder Sanhu described the incident as a 'pure hate crime'. Rahman was granted bail and is scheduled to be sentenced on 10 July. The case highlights the ongoing issue of antisemitic hate crimes in the UK.
