Jewish Man Attacked by Masked Men in Golders Green

Police in London are investigating an alleged antisemitic hate crime after a Jewish man was reportedly attacked by five masked individuals in Golders Green. The 22-year-old victim sustained injuries to his neck and back following the incident, which occurred in the early hours of Monday morning.

Details of the Attack

According to the Campaign Against Antisemitism (CAA), the man stepped outside his apartment on The Grove at around 2am to make a phone call. While speaking Hebrew, he was overheard by a group of five masked men, who then allegedly assaulted him. The assailants reportedly chased the victim, dragged him across the road, and tore his clothing while shouting abuse in Arabic.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that officers were dispatched to the scene within six minutes of receiving a report at 2:05am. The victim was later taken to hospital for treatment of injuries to his face and back. A neighbour who heard the disturbance alerted authorities, but the suspects fled before police arrived.

Police Response

In a statement, the Met Police said: “The assault is being treated as an antisemitic hate crime. No arrests have been made at this stage and police enquiries continue.” The force has urged anyone with information to come forward.

Community Reaction

The CAA expressed deep concern over the incident, highlighting a broader pattern of violence against Jewish individuals in Britain. A spokesperson for the group stated: “We cannot wait any longer for real intervention against this horrific wave of violence against Britain’s Jews. We are in dire need of urgent action.”

The attack has reignited discussions about the safety of Jewish communities in London and the need for enhanced measures to combat antisemitism. Golders Green, a neighbourhood with a significant Jewish population, has seen a rise in such incidents in recent years.
