Iraqi Man Accused of Synagogue Bomb Plot in NY Court

Mohammad Baqer Saad Dawood Al-Saadi, a 32-year-old Iraqi national, appeared in Manhattan federal court on Friday, smiling as he faced accusations of plotting to bomb a New York City synagogue and other Jewish targets across the United States.

Allegations and Charges

Prosecutors allege that Al-Saadi attempted to recruit an individual to carry out these attacks, unaware that the person was an undercover law enforcement officer. He faces multiple terrorism-related charges, including conspiring to provide material support to Iran-aligned groups such as the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and Kata’ib Hizbollah.

Details of the Plot

The alleged plot involved coordinating attacks on three locations: a synagogue in New York, a Jewish community center in Los Angeles, and a Jewish school in Scottsdale, Arizona. Court documents indicate that Al-Saadi proposed a payment of $10,000 in cryptocurrency to the undercover officer for carrying out the attacks.
