A devoted father has been hailed as a hero after tragically losing his life while attempting to save the family dog during what should have been a peaceful countryside walk.
Andrew McDiarmid, 43, plunged approximately 50 feet into a steep ravine in the Peak District's picturesque but treacherous Chee Dale area while trying to rescue his beloved pet, Max.
A Family Outing Turns to Tragedy
The horrific incident occurred on Saturday afternoon while Andrew was walking with his wife, two children, and their dog near the popular Monsal Trail. According to eyewitness accounts, the family pet suddenly went over the edge of the cliffside path.
"Without a moment's hesitation, Andrew went after the dog," a family friend revealed. "That was the kind of man he was - always putting others first, whether his family, friends, or even their beloved pet."
Desperate Rescue Efforts
Emergency services rushed to the scene following multiple 999 calls from distressed walkers. Mountain rescue teams, paramedics, and air ambulance crews worked desperately to reach Andrew in the challenging terrain.
