Pep Guardiola has said that blaming immigrants for a country's problems is wrong, following controversial comments by Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe. The Manchester City manager described the treatment of immigrants as a 'big problem'.
Speaking ahead of City's FA Cup match against Salford City, Guardiola said people have no control over where they are born, and everyone wants a better life. He referenced his own career travelling from Spain to Italy, Mexico, Qatar, Germany and England, saying that has enriched his personality.
Guardiola argued that most people leave their countries due to problems, not by choice, and called for embracing other cultures to build a better society. He pointed to Manchester City's dressing room, where people of different religions and backgrounds work together harmoniously, describing any problems as created by 'bosses and presidents'.
On the FA Cup, Guardiola expressed his love for the competition and said playing lower-league teams creates memorable experiences. Regarding Erling Haaland, he confirmed the striker is a doubt for Saturday's game after being substituted against Fulham with a minor issue.
Separately, midfielder Rodri has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association for comments questioning referee Robert Jones's neutrality after a 2-2 draw with Tottenham. The FA alleged his remarks implied bias and questioned the integrity of match officials.
