The former chief executive of Moorfields Eye Hospital has denied exposing himself to a woman in Battersea Park and then sexually assaulting the police officer who arrested him.
Dr Martin Kuper, 57, appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court on Wednesday to plead not guilty to charges of exposure and sexual assault. The alleged incident took place on 28 April 2025, while the woman was sunbathing in the south-west London park.
Prosecutor Barbara Valentini told the court that Kuper approached the victim, straddled her and exposed his penis. He then ran off into the bushes after being challenged. Following his arrest, Kuper is also accused of grabbing a female police officer in her crotch area.
Kuper, who was chief executive of the NHS trust from September 2021 until his departure last July, confirmed his name, age and Chelsea address before repeating "not guilty" twice. He elected to stand trial at crown court.
Magistrate Sandra Burling granted Kuper bail with a condition that he not enter Battersea Park. He is due to appear at Kingston Crown Court on 10 March for a trial date to be set.
