Twenty-two British passengers and crew members from the MV Hondius cruise ship, which has been affected by a hantavirus outbreak, are being repatriated to the United Kingdom. The individuals are expected to arrive in Tenerife this Sunday, where they will undergo testing for hantavirus before being permitted to disembark.
Repatriation Process
Those who test negative and show no symptoms will be flown back to the UK on a dedicated medical flight. Upon arrival, they will be taken to Arrowe Park Hospital on the Wirral for an initial assessment. This hospital previously served as a quarantine facility during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Passengers will remain in a managed setting for up to 72 hours to undergo clinical assessment and further testing. Following this period, they will be required to self-isolate for 45 days, either at home or at another suitable location.
