A 38-year-old British man has died after falling approximately 400 feet from Mount Urgull, a popular tourist viewing spot in San Sebastian, northern Spain. The incident occurred on Friday, with the man's body discovered by a passer-by on the Paseo Nuevo coastal walkway at around 11am local time.
Emergency response and investigation
Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene, but the man was pronounced dead. A ladder truck was required to retrieve the body from the difficult-to-access location. The Basque police force, Ertzaintza, has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fall. The body has been taken for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Previous incidents at the location
This is not the first fatal fall at Mount Urgull. In 2019, a 65-year-old woman died in similar circumstances at the same site. The area is known for its scenic views but also presents potential hazards due to its steep cliffs and uneven terrain.
Authorities have urged visitors to exercise caution when exploring the mount and to stay on designated paths. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge following the autopsy results.
