A British father has died after falling from a sixth-floor balcony at a hotel in Torremolinos, Spain, just hours before the first anniversary of his baby daughter's death from sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). Robert Davidson, 37, was on holiday with his fiancée Daniella Robb, 27, and her two children, aged eight and nine, at the Sandos Griego resort. The family had travelled to Spain on February 1 to avoid being at home on February 4, the date they lost their daughter Hollie.
Ms Robb told how Mr Davidson returned to their hotel room just before midnight on the night of the incident. He kissed the children and told them he loved them before going out onto the balcony for a cigarette. Ms Robb then fell asleep, later waking to screams from the children that Mr Davidson had fallen off the balcony. He was declared dead at the scene. The family had lost Hollie at seven weeks old to SIDS.
Ms Robb said Mr Davidson had been struggling with grief and had suffered a fall on Christmas Eve that left him with a fractured skull and a bleed on the brain, causing confusion. She said he was due to start a new job in telecommunications and believed it would have helped him. A GoFundMe page has raised over £9,000 to bring his body back to the UK.
A Foreign Office spokesperson said: 'We are providing support to the family of a British man who died in Spain and are in contact with the local authorities.' Ms Robb is due to fly home with her family. The Samaritans can be contacted free on 116 123 for mental health support.
