A British father has died after falling from a sixth-floor hotel balcony in Torremolinos, Costa del Sol, just hours before the first anniversary of his baby daughter's death. Robert Davidson, 37, was declared dead at the scene at the Sandos Griego resort late Tuesday night.
His fiancée Daniella Robb, 27, said the family had travelled to Spain on February 1 to avoid being at home on February 4, the date their daughter Hollie died from sudden infant death syndrome at seven weeks old. Ms Robb was asleep with her two children, aged eight and nine, when Mr Davidson returned to the room, kissed the children and told them he loved them before going onto the balcony.
Ms Robb said she woke to her children screaming that Mr Davidson had fallen. She described his struggles with grief, noting he had also suffered a fall on Christmas Eve that left him with a fractured skull and a bleed on the brain, causing confusion. She said he was due to start a new job in telecommunications the following Monday.
Hotel staff, police and nurses offered Ms Robb a sedative injection. A GoFundMe page has raised £9,000 to bring Mr Davidson's body back to the UK. A Foreign Office spokesperson confirmed they are supporting the family.
