Oxford rapist asylum seeker jailed for 9.5 years after German convictions
Asylum seeker with German convictions jailed for Oxford rape

The mother of a teenage girl brutally raped by an asylum seeker in Oxford is demanding answers from the Home Office, questioning why a man with a string of previous convictions in Germany was ever allowed into the United Kingdom.

A Valentine's Day Nightmare

Amin Abedi Mofrad, a 35-year-old Iranian national, was found guilty of raping a 15-year-old girl on February 14 last year. The teenager was waiting to be picked up from the Westgate Shopping Centre in Oxford after a night out at an under-18s club when Mofrad approached her. The court heard how he told the vulnerable girl she could be his 'sex doll' before dragging her into a nearby alleyway and subjecting her to a horrific sexual assault.

A History of Violence and Systemic Failure

Mofrad's presence in the UK has sparked serious questions about border security and vetting procedures. He arrived in Britain on a small boat in 2023. Shockingly, it was revealed that Mofrad had 11 previous convictions in Germany for violent assaults and Actual Bodily Harm (ABH) between 2014 and 2019.

Shortly after his arrival, he was arrested for an alleged sexual assault, but the case was dropped due to insufficient evidence. He was also later convicted of stealing a woman's bag and a silver chain in January of last year.

A Mother's Anguish and a Call for Accountability

The victim's mother has placed responsibility for the attack squarely on the Home Office, slamming the decision to allow Mofrad into the community. In a heartfelt letter to Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood, she wrote that her daughter 'now carries a pain and trauma no child should ever know'.

Speaking to The Sun, she voiced the central question tormenting her family: 'There is really only one question — why was he in this country? I think I have the right to know the truth.' She added, 'There should have been checks done on this man when he came here, not after he raped my child. They would have found that he had convictions in Germany, and so he was a danger to Britain. He should never have been in the community.'

Justice Served After a Harrowing Investigation

The rape was reported to Thames Valley Police on April 7, leading to Mofrad's initial arrest and release on bail. The investigation gained crucial momentum when new evidence was discovered on his mobile phone on December 13, leading to a second arrest. He was eventually charged and remanded on February 3 this year.

Following a trial at Oxford Crown Court, a unanimous jury found Mofrad guilty of one count of rape and one count of sexual assault by penetration on October 7.

On Thursday, he was sentenced to 9 years and 6 months in prison, with an extended licence period of 3 years.

Detective Constable Bethany Liversidge, the investigating officer from Oxford CID, paid tribute to the victim's 'immense courage' throughout the legal process. She stated, 'It is thanks to her support and bravery that we were able to bring Mofrad to justice.' DC Liversidge also highlighted the force's commitment to investigating violence against women and girls through initiatives like Project Vigilant.

The victim and her family have requested privacy as they attempt to rebuild their lives.
