Amanda Knox Contacts Notorious Baby Killer Lucy Letby in Prison
Amanda Knox has written a letter to Lucy Letby, the former neonatal nurse serving life sentences for murdering seven babies, while sending her a personal copy of her book. This communication comes as Knox and her husband Chris Robinson investigate Letby's case for an upcoming podcast series titled "Doubt - The Case of Lucy Letby."
Investigative Journey and Podcast Production
Knox described her examination of Letby's convictions as an "eye-opening experience" that has involved significant research efforts. The couple traveled from London to Chester to conduct interviews with individuals connected to the case and gather additional information. Their podcast promises to deliver at least thirteen episodes featuring what Knox calls a "very, very in-depth investigation" into the facts surrounding Letby's trial and sentencing.
"The focus of the podcast is not about her - it's about the facts of the case which I think is really important," Knox emphasized during a recent public appearance. She confirmed that while she has written to Letby and even to Letby's parents, she has not yet spoken directly with the imprisoned former nurse.
Personal Connection to Criminal Justice System
Knox, who was famously cleared of murdering her roommate Meredith Kercher in Italy after a highly publicized legal battle, explained her motivation for examining Letby's case. "I like to remind people that I was an indirect victim of crime before I became a victim of the criminal justice system," she stated. "I'm absolutely invested in getting the right people held accountable because I know so much about the criminal legal system. I actually might be a very valuable and fair juror."
The 38-year-old revealed these details while promoting her documentary "Mouth of the Wolf" at the Greenwich Picturehouse in southeast London, where audience members inquired about her connection to Letby's controversial case.
Controversial Case Background
Lucy Letby received fifteen whole-life sentences for murdering seven infants and attempting to murder seven others at the Countess of Chester Hospital between 2015 and 2016. Despite several high-profile calls for a new inquiry and claims of innocence, Letby's attempts to appeal her convictions were dismissed by the Court of Appeal in May 2024 on all grounds.
Knox expressed particular concern about how Letby has been portrayed in media coverage, noting: "When I saw how Letby was being cast as evil by the British press, I felt that uncomfortable shock of recognition." She added that the trial and sentencing created a national firestorm where public anger overshadowed careful examination of evidence.
Two-Year Investigation Process
The podcast represents two years of investigative work by Knox and her husband. In promotional materials, Knox described the series as taking "an unflinching look at a case that stunned the United Kingdom and the world" while examining how certainty in criminal convictions can sometimes prove fragile when factors beyond evidence influence public perception and legal outcomes.
Knox's communication with Letby marks a significant development in her ongoing examination of one of Britain's most notorious criminal cases, blending her personal experience with wrongful conviction accusations with journalistic investigation of another highly controversial legal matter.
