Donald Trump was repeatedly heckled and interrupted during a meandering and erratic speech in his home state of Florida, with just three days to go until the midterm elections.
Trump visited Daytona Beach, Florida, seeking to energise his base and boost turnout in Tuesday's crucial Congressional and Governor elections. However, he was interrupted during the speech six times, with at least seven people removed from the venue by security and local police.
Speech Lacks Policy, Filled with Personal Attacks
Trump's speech contained little policy, with the two-hour address filled with personal, often racist attacks on his favourite targets: Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El Sayed, Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, and, unexpectedly, actor Robert De Niro, about whom Trump asked the audience: "is [he] a moron?".
Trump grumbled that last night's rally in Northern Florida was supposed to be his last event before the election, and that he had planned to take the weekend off. But a pair of rallies in Kansas and Iowa that had been cancelled on Thursday were reinstated yesterday morning, following questions about the President's health.
Rallies Reinstated After Cancellation
"I thought this was going to be my last one," Trump griped. "I thought I could relax. 28 days in a row of this crap is a lot. My voice is operating at about 49.2%."
Trump's visit to Florida was nominally in support of Byron Donalds, the Republican candidate for Florida Governor, and Senator Ashley Moody and Representative Randy Fine, both of whom are running for re-election.
Trump, 80, went on: "They called me in Iowa and they called me in Kansas, and they said, 'Sir, would it be possible to do a little rally of about 50,000 people each?'"
"And I said, 'Does it matter?' They said, 'We just want to make sure,'" he said. "So on Sunday, while you're all watching football, I'll be traveling in a very beautiful airplane to Iowa, to Kansas."
