Simpsons Writer Who Predicted Trump Presidency Launches White House Bid

Dan Greaney, the Emmy-winning writer who famously predicted Donald Trump's presidency in a 2000 episode of The Simpsons, has announced his own bid for the White House in 2028. The 61-year-old, who calls himself 'the prophet', declared his candidacy in a Tuesday Instagram video.

In the video, Greaney appeared in a wizard costume, criticising Democrats, Republicans, the Trump administration and billionaires. 'Trump, Vance, the billionaires, careerists, and cowards in both parties have turned their backs on the United States,' he said. 'It’s money, power, and security for them, but not for you.'

Greaney then revealed he is a qualified lawyer, throwing off his costume to show a suit and clean-shaven face. 'Screw it, I can be a politician,' he said. 'I’m running for president. My platform: America for all. Let’s do this.' He appears to be running as an independent on a 'progressive Republican' platform advocating universal healthcare and a return to morals.

Greaney is best known for writing the 2000 Simpsons episode 'Bart to the Future', which depicted Lisa Simpson as president inheriting financial problems from a fictional Trump presidency. In a June 2025 video, he predicted Trump's removal from office by the end of that year, a forecast that did not come true. In a recent post, he said: 'Our crisis is bigger than Trump and Vance and the billionaires and the Republican party. Spineless Democrats refuse to stand up for us even when they had the chance.'

Very few candidates have entered the 2028 presidential race so far.
