New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani has signed an executive order repealing bedtimes for the city's children during the New York Knicks' NBA finals campaign. The Knicks, who face the San Antonio Spurs starting Wednesday, are in the finals for the first time since 1999.
The order, titled 'repealing kids' bedtimes for Knicks Finals run', was signed on Monday. Section one states: 'I hereby direct that bedtimes in the City of New York are repealed during the NBA Finals so that kids of all ages can root for their New York Knicks.'
Mamdani described the decision as straightforward, writing on social media: 'As Mayor, you're forced to make many difficult decisions. This was not one of them.' The Knicks are seeking their first title since 1973.
The mayor has enjoyed recent sporting success, with his beloved Arsenal winning the Premier League and the Knicks sweeping the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference finals. He also announced a $50 World Cup ticket lottery for residents in May. However, a visit to the New York Mets' stadium earlier this season coincided with a losing streak, for which he was blamed.
