Rozonda 'Chilli' Thomas, a member of the iconic R&B group TLC, has clarified that she does not support Donald Trump's MAGA movement after federal records revealed she made donations to his 2024 presidential campaign.
The 55-year-old singer was reported to have donated $210.60 to WinRed, $340.60 to the Trump National Committee JFC, and $486.54 to Never Surrender Inc., a pro-Trump fundraising group. In an Instagram statement, Thomas wrote: 'I WANT TO BE CLEAR: I am not MAGA and do not support any of the many policies that are causing great harm to the American people.'
She explained the donations were a mistake, saying she thought she was supporting causes against human trafficking and for veterans. 'I made a mistake too many make: I did not read the fine print,' she said, adding that she had learned a valuable lesson.
Thomas also addressed controversy over reposting a conspiracy theory falsely claiming Michelle Obama is transgender. She said she had no clue about the repost and that it was likely an accidental tap while scrolling. 'I have the utmost respect and admiration for Michelle Obama,' she stated.
This is not the first time Thomas has faced backlash over political statements. In a 2017 interview, she said 'all lives matter' when asked about Black Lives Matter, a phrase widely criticised for denying systemic racism.
