A devastating house fire on Broomhill Road in Prudhoe, Northumberland, has left a mum and her children with only the clothes they were wearing. The blaze broke out yesterday evening and, although firefighters quickly brought it under control, the family lost all their belongings.
No one was injured in the incident. A fundraising page has been set up to help the family get back on their feet.
Councillor Gordon Stewart, who represents Prudhoe South on Northumberland County Council, said he had visited the scene and spoken with the homeowner. "I have visited the scene of the fire and spoken with the homeowner, she and her children are safe and unharmed which is the most important factor," he said. "I am in contact with Karbon Homes and Northumberland County Council to ensure support is provided for them as quickly as possible, the cause and full extent of the blaze is yet to be established."
Community rallies round
"We have a fantastic community in the town and people are rallying around to provide support," Stewart added.
The house is understood to be home to mum Kylie Tait and her daughters. A friend, Nicola Minett, who set up the fundraising page, wrote: "Sadly Kylie and her children have lost all of their belongings due to a house fire. They have nothing left except the set of clothes they left the house with. Luckily it started while they were home and awake not through the night while they were sleeping. Any donation would be greatly appreciated."
'Only the PJs on our backs'
Kylie Tait posted on Facebook: "Hate to ask for anything but I’m not in a position to not ask for a little bit help while me and my two girls only have the PJs on our backs. I’ll appreciate any little help I can get even if it’s as little as possible."
A spokeswoman for Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service said: "Our fire crews were called out to a house fire in the Prudhoe area this evening. Two appliances were deployed from Northumberland and one appliance from Tyne and Wear. The fire is now extinguished and the incident concluded."
