Ben Roberts-Smith, the decorated former soldier facing war crimes allegations, has listed his sprawling Sunshine Coast hinterland home for auction. The property, purchased with his ex-wife Emma for $1.45 million in 2015, is expected to fetch around $2 million.
The four-bedroom, four-bathroom estate features a large outdoor entertaining area, bar, pool, and separate poolhouse. The couple extended the home after purchase, adding the infinity pool and poolhouse. Real estate agent Kathryn Willshire described the view as 'arguably one of the most breathtaking settings I have ever seen.'
In a statement, the Roberts-Smiths cited a 'change in lifestyle' and the need to move back to Brisbane due to changes in employment, lifestyle, and their children's school. The sale comes as Roberts-Smith defends himself against war crimes allegations and pursues defamation action against Nine Newspapers, backed by Channel Seven owner Kerry Stokes, who has provided a $1.9 million line of credit secured against Roberts-Smith's Victoria Cross and other medals.
Roberts-Smith has denied any wrongdoing during his service in Afghanistan or Iraq. The listing follows a damning inquiry into the conduct of elite Australian troops in the Middle East.
