Zayn Malik has honoured his former One Direction bandmate Liam Payne during a concert in Payne's hometown of Wolverhampton, UK. The tribute took place on Friday as part of Malik's Stairway to the Sky Tour at the University of Wolverhampton.
During the show, Malik dedicated his song 'It’s You' to Payne, saying: “So, I’ve been doing something at the end of the show every night, and it’s been dedicated to my brother Liam Payne. Rest in peace. I hope you’re seeing this. We’re in your hometown tonight, Wolverhampton. This is for you, Liam.”
Malik had previously paid tribute to Payne on the opening night of his tour in Leeds, where a message reading “Liam Payne, 1993-2024. Love you bro” was displayed on stage. He also released a heartfelt statement after Payne's death last month, expressing his devastation and recalling their bond.
Payne died on October 16 after falling from the third-floor balcony of his Buenos Aires hotel room. An autopsy confirmed multiple injuries and external bleeding, ruling out suicide. A toxicology report found multiple drugs in his system at the time of death.
Argentine prosecutors have charged three unidentified individuals with “abandonment of a person followed by death, supply and facilitating the use of narcotics.” They have been prohibited from leaving the country but not arrested.
