Book of Mormon Show Cancelled After Protester Throws Objects at Cast

A performance of The Book of Mormon at London's Prince of Wales Theatre was cancelled mid-show on Tuesday evening after a man in the front row began throwing objects at cast members. The incident, which occurred around 9:45pm, prompted staff to stop the show and evacuate the protester.

Audience members reported that the thrown items included sheets of paper or food, though this has not been confirmed. The man appeared to be conducting a protest, but the motive remains unclear. Some attendees noted the disruption happened just before a line referencing the word 'Jew', though whether this was intentional is unknown.

In footage shared on social media, a venue worker announced the cancellation, saying: 'Unfortunately we've had an incident with one of our audience members. I know that this must be very disappointing for you - as it is for the cast who are performing this evening.' The audience was directed to collect cancellation slips for refunds or ticket transfers.

A show spokesman confirmed that the safety of cast, crew, and audience was the priority, leading to the decision to cancel the remainder of Act 1. The individual was escorted from the building, and authorities were notified. The Metropolitan Police stated that a man in his 40s had thrown paint onto the stage and was removed by security before officers arrived. No arrests have been made, and enquiries are ongoing.

Performances are scheduled to resume as normal from Wednesday evening. The Book of Mormon, a musical comedy about two Mormon missionaries, continues its run at the Prince of Wales Theatre.
